The price of the dollar in Mexico rose on Tuesday hand in hand with other emerging currencies as the greenback rose, driven by bets related to increases in US interest rates, while the yields of the 10-year Treasury bonds rose to its highest level in six weeks.

The US dollar also rose as investors were betting that the variant of the omicron coronavirus would have a limited economic impact despite its rapid spread.

“The attention of the financial markets at the beginning of the year has focused, both on the risk of continuing inflationary pressures, and on the future of the United States’ monetary policy”said Gabriela Siller, director of economic analysis for Grupo Financiero Base.

“It is speculated that (the Fed) could begin to raise its interest rate in the second quarter, once the bond purchase program is concluded”he added.
