Miss World 2021: Why was it delayed, who are the favorites and more about the beauty pageant

The time has come. The grand finale of miss World 2021 will take place this Wednesday, March 16 at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in San Juan (Puerto Rico). The organization decided that only the 40 finalist models would travel to the event to avoid any unforeseen events.

The main gala of the international contest was scheduled to take place on December 16 at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico. More than a hundred candidates came to that country, including the Peruvian representative Paula Montés.

However, on the same day of the contest, the Miss World organization decided to temporarily suspend it due to the presence of positive cases among the participants and the staff. Through their Instagram account, they communicated that their priority was to preserve the health and safety of the participants, staff and the general public.

They also stressed that the decision was made after a meeting with medical experts and the Puerto Rico Department of Health. The statement specified that the gala would be rescheduled in the next 90 days.

Since yesterday, additional security measures were implemented in the best interest of the contestants, production team and spectators, understanding that the event increased risks on stage and in the dressing room. However, after new positive cases were confirmed this morning, the decision to postpone was made.”, the statement read.

To continue preserving the health of the team, the organization decided to call only the 40 finalists of the contest. The top 15 candidates were chosen for winning various challenges in the preliminary competitions for talent, modeling, sports, and social projects. While the other 25 women were chosen by the panel of judges. The Peruvian Paula Montés did not manage to pass to this last stage.

After the announcement of the forty candidates for the grand finale of Miss World 2021, the renowned web portal Missosology released the predictions of who would be the favorites of the contest during this last stage.

These are the five women who could compete for the crown this Wednesday, March 16:

Alejandra Conde, Miss Venezuela

At only 24 years old, she is the strongest candidate to win the Miss World 2021 crown. Conde is a model and a third-year medical student. During the competition, she has managed to stand out as the winner of the “Head to Head Challenge” and semifinalist of “Beauty with a Purpose”.

Tracy Maureen Perez, Miss Philippines

The representative from the Philippines has completed her bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and works as a model; she also has the ambition to become a businesswoman. During the Miss World 2021 competition, Tracy Pérez became the winner of two challenges: “Beauty with a Purpose”, as well as “Head to Head”.

Olivia Yacé, Miss Ivory Coast

She is a model from Ivory Coast who has a degree in marketing and would like to continue her studies towards her master’s degree. Olivia Yacé was chosen as the winner of “Top model” and “Head to Head”. In this way, she obtained her quota for the semifinal of Miss World 2021.

Audrey Monkam, Miss Cameroon

With a master’s degree in banking and finance, Audrey Monkam has become one of the favorites of the beauty pageant. Audrey is one of the winners of the “Head to Head” challenge and she came in second place in the “Top Model” contest; She was also a semi-finalist for “Beauty with a Purpose”.

Aryam Diaz, Miss Puerto Rico

The model is a journalism student and works as a television presenter. Also, she learned that she wants to do a master’s degree and work in television journalism. Aryam Diaz was ranked as the second runner up in “Top Model”.

The main event of the 70th edition of Miss World will be hosted by television presenter Peter Andre and actor and singer Fernando Allende. Likewise, Miss World 1975, Wilnelia Merced Forsyth, will pay a special tribute to the mission and legacy of the organization throughout its history.

In addition, the gala will feature the musical participation of the Puerto Rico Philharmonic Orchestra directed by the musical director of Miss World, Ángel Vélez.

It should be remembered that the last winner of Miss World was Toni-Ann Singh, representative of Jamaica in the 2019 edition. The 2020 edition did not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
