Carlos Rafael Rivera wins the Grammy for Best Soundtrack for “Gambito de dama”

Hispanic composer Carlos Rafael Rivera won the award for Best Soundtrack for Visual Media for “The Queen’s Gambit” at the 64th Annual Music Awards. grammysheld this year at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas (USA).

The other Grammy nominees for Best Soundtrack for Visual Media were Ludwig Göransson (“The Mandalorian: Season 2 – Vol. 2″) and Kris Bowers (“Bridgerton”).

Rivera went up on stage to pick up the gramophone, visibly moved, he took the opportunity to thank his mother for “the encouragement” to continue creating and concluded his speech by exclaiming in Spanish: “Mom, I won”.

The composer grew up in Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama, but was trained in composition at different educational institutions in the state of Florida (USA) and at the University of Southern California (USC).

“I grew up in Central America, speaking mostly Spanish, and I always thought that people who made soundtracks and music for visual media lived in other places, so I never thought I would be here”Rivera revealed in statements to Efe after receiving the award.

An award that was granted at the gala prior to the main event of the Grammys and in which 76 of the 86 categories that make up the Recording Academy program are awarded.

Rivera composed the soundtrack for “The Queen’s Gambit”, a Netflix miniseries that was very well received by the public, which already brought him recognition at the last Emmy Awards, and whose leading actress, Anya Taylor Joy, is of Argentine nationality, British and American. (Source: EFE)
