A film master arrives in the Amazon: Apichatpong Weerasethakul will offer a workshop in the Peruvian jungle

Recognized for masterpieces of contemporary cinema such as “Tropical Malady”, “Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives” or the recent “Memoria”, the Thai Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Bangkok, 1970) will be in charge of giving the workshop “Apichatpong Weerasethakul Lab : filming in the Amazon”, which will take place from June 18 to 28.

During those 10 days, the 50 directors who are selected after a registration process will work together with Weerasethakul in the filming of 50 short filmsin a methodology created by the Iranian teacher Abbas Kiarostami and later adapted by the German Werner Herzog (who also brought it to Peru a few years ago).

“We will film together, we will film with the 50 selected directors. We will watch and listen intently. We will cook and eat together,” says the Thai filmmaker, who, among several awards, was the winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.

The dynamics of Playlab Films involves not only accompanying each participating director, but also dialogue sessions with Weerasethakul every night to discuss film work, ways of creating and feeling.

The call is open to creators of all nationalities and backgrounds. A committee will evaluate the applicants. based on their previous work, the authenticity of their narrative search, their personal motivations, or the importance that the workshop may have in their project.

The closing of the call will be next April 26 and the publication of the selected list will be made on May 6. The cost is 5,200 euros and includes accommodation and food for 12 days at Inkaterra Guides Field Station, the company that sponsors the workshop.
