Pinta Parc returns: the visual arts fair opens its doors in Lima

How did the pandemic affect the arts system? How did the creators, the gallery owners, the collectors, the institutions respond? What was its impact on the market? The reappearance of Pinta Parc may suggest that the art scene is recovering, and that public interest is increasing. However, the Contemporary Art fair wants to offer direct answers and not evade the debate. “Art serves to reflect, and it is the artists who communicate this reflection. And we can see this in this edition of the fair”, explains Diego Costa Peuser, director of Paint PArC. In fact, both in its scheduled exhibitions and in its role as talk shows, these urgent issues will be addressed in depth.

After two years of pandemic, the ninth edition of PArC, Peru Contemporary Art, integrated into the Pinta universe, returns in person to our city from April 20 to 24 at the emblematic Casa Prado, in Miraflores. The center of this party corresponds to the “Main section”, the main section of the fair, which brings together more than 40 galleries with great local and international experience, among which stand out Livia Benavides (Peru), El Museo Gallery (Colombia), Galería+Ponce Robles (Spain), Pavilion 4 Contemporary Art (Argentina), Younique (France), Piero Atchugarry Gallery (United States / Uruguay), NAC Gallery (Chile) and Nosco Gallery (United Kingdom).

Likewise, the Solo Project section, curated by Oscar Roldán-Alzate, includes the exhibition of six artists represented by their respective galleries. This section is presented as an opportunity to highlight the production of contemporary artists in a deeper and more personal way. Two Peruvians, Augusto Ballardo and Raúl Silva, two Argentines, Hernán Salvo and Federico Cantini, the Cuban Dagoberto Rodríguez and the Colombian Ana González are presented. They propose works on themes related to ecology, the neo-colonial and the environment, between figuration and abstraction. “This selection focuses on contemporary art projects that dialogue with today’s problems, that raise questions and questions in us. They share a peculiarity: their great dedication to the manual, to the invoice of their work, to the commitment to the task. That speaks to us of a return to the exquisite ways of the plastic”, points out the Colombian curator.

Lima-based curator Florencia Portocarrero is responsible for the NEXT section, which will bring together seven galleries that are committed to making the work of emerging artists visible. The artists presented by the galleries +Arte (Ecuador), Constitución (Argentina), Galería del Paseo (Peru), Platform Art Base (Mexico), Subsuelo (Argentina), Vigil Gonzales (Peru) and NAC (Chile) return to manual work and invite the viewer to immerse themselves in long-term projects.

“Media Point” is a hybrid section of the fair that calls for face-to-face meetings and audiovisual content. Coordinated by Verónica Santalla, its programming includes interviews with artists, gallery owners and collectors, as well as videos dedicated to artists who share their artistic processes. It is complemented by the “Live talks”, organized by the curator Miguel López, who proposes a debate on the changes in the art world after the pandemic, the ethics of collecting, the convergences and divergences between art and design, among other topics. . Among the participants in the talks are Magalí Arriola, director of the Tamayo Museum in Mexico, Sharon Lerner, director of MALI, the visual artist from Lima Iosu Aramburu or Maria Wills, director of Arts and Collections of the Banco de la República, in Bogotá. Likewise, this platform will present the book “Paraguasexistential” by the late Peruvian visual artist Juan Javier Salazar, published by the Planeta publishing house.

This year, as a novelty at the fair, a new space featuring textile art is presented. Curated by Jerson Ramírez, the objective of this section is to recover, highlight and celebrate traditional weaving techniques.
