Johnny Depp will not play Captain Jack Sparrow again even if Disney offered him millions of dollars

Although the role of Captain Jack Sparrow that he played in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” saga is one of the most emblematic of his career, Johnny Depp He was surprised to reveal that he would not put himself in the shoes of the beloved character again even if Disney paid him millions.

These statements were made by the actor in one of the recent hearings in the middle of the defamation trial that he filed in a court in the city of Fairfax, in the state of Virginia (United States), against his ex-wife Amber Heard, after she accused him of domestic violence.

It should be remembered that this legal dispute revolves around the fact that Depp maintains that his career was irreparably damaged as a result of an editorial that Heard published in 2018 in The Washington Postwhere he launched the accusations of violence and abuse against him.

It was in this context that the actor, when answering a question from his own lawyer, assured that Disney decided not to hire him to star in the sixth film of the saga shortly after the publication of the statement signed by Heard

Nevertheless, The defense of the actress made reference to an article in The Daily Mail that a couple of months earlier claimed that Depp was out of that production, in order to prove that Heard’s publication would not have prompted the actor’s departure from the franchise.

“I wasn’t aware of that, but I’m not surprised,” Depp replied. “It had been two years of constant talk around the world about me being a wife beater. So I’m sure Disney was trying to cut ties to be safe. The #MeToo movement was in full swing,” he added.

And it is that with his words the Hollywood star made reference to the first accusation of domestic violence against him by the actress that occurred in 2016. After that, Depp insisted that the 2018 editorial did affect his career.

“I would be a real fool not to think that there was an effect on my career based on Mrs. Heard’s words, whether they mentioned my name or not,” the actor pointed out. “Once that happened, I lost then. No matter the outcome of this trial, I’ll wear it for the rest of my days… I am suing her for defamation and the various falsehoods she used to end my life,”

It was at this point that Ben Rottenborn, Heard’s attorney, told her: “The fact is, Mr. Depp, if Disney came to you with $300 million dollars and a million alpacas, nothing on earth would make you go back and work with Disney on a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie? Correct?”, the actor replied: “That’s true”.
