“Being a mother in a pandemic”: Mariana Carranza presents a book on motherhood and resilience

Being a mother is a beautiful challenge, but it is not an easy task. And it is even more complicated in difficult contexts such as the pandemic that affected Peru and the world in the last two years. For that reason, the communicator Mariana Carranza (Piura, 1986) She was encouraged to recount her experience as a new mother in a situation like the one caused by COVID-19. The result is the book “Being a mother in a pandemic”a publication of the Caja Negra publishing house.

“Being a mother in a pandemic” covers anecdotal issues such as pregnancy during confinement, but also others deeper such as the gaps in the Peruvian health system, which Carranza details from his own experience.

“The idea of writing the book was born when I began to feel abandoned by the health service. When I called to make an appointment at the hospital and they never answered or gave me inaccurate information. It’s a bit crude to say it, but from that bitter experience and impotence is born the intention to leave a memory about the adverse situation of a pregnant woman in the middle of a pandemic”, affirms the author.

The publication is divided into three chapters: the first explores its interior and the social prejudices that new mothers face; the second focuses on bittersweet experiences of pregnancy in the midst of a health crisis; and the third focuses on the experience of childbirth, which encompassed a sum of fears and doubts.

As Carranza herself points out, “Being a mother in a pandemic” shows a story of resilience of a woman and mother who, at the same time, persists in her professional role, and who seeks to serve as an example or inspiration to her readers.
