Festival “Amazonarte” will hold its sixth edition in Juanjui

He’s back. The new edition of “Amazonarte”, the mural festival artistic largest in the Peruvian Amazon, will take place between June 25 and 29 in the city of Juanjui, San Martín, where various national and international artists will participate.

“Amazonarte 6” will have artists prepared with paints and brushes to capture their talent and experience on walls strategically located within the city. The objective of this edition is to share a message of love and care towards the Amazonian culture. This, because Peru is one of the countries with the most murders of environmental/indigenous leaders in the world.

After almost three years, this festival will return to pay tribute to all those who fight for the preservation of their territory and their culture. “We seek to leave a precedent in the Peruvian and Latin American urban art scene, since public art policies work better on paper, but are rarely applied properly or never reach all spaces, we believe that art is one of the tools more powerful to communicate and protect our identity”said Joe Fernández Carrasco, director of the Amazonarte Peru organization, in an official statement.

On this occasion, and for the first time, four original artists will join: Valbina Miguel Toribio (YANESHA culture), Luz Rodríguez Guimaraes (ISKONAWA), Melvin Estrella Bardales (KAKATAIBO) and Wilder Allui Ukuncham (AWAJUN) to paint the first intercultural mural made in an urban art festival in our country.

The other national artists will be Jorge Luis Chávez and Andrea Córdoba Canales from San Martín; Teo Baneo and Oswel Valera from Loreto; Sandro Vidal García, Joel Pacaya Armas, Mirian Requena and Walter Tamani from Ucayali; Ana Balcázar, PSY and Lizeth Balboa from Lima; Julio Ligarda Gastañaga from Cusco and Sandra Llontop from Lambayeque.

Meanwhile, the international artists that will be present at “Amazonarte 6″ will be Sebastián Medina and Jhon Cruz from Colombia; Nicholas Sark of Chile; Raphaelle Ontanaya from France and Nuria Ortiz from the United States.

It should be noted that “Amazonarte” seeks to recover various public spaces, intervening walls with various themes related to the conservation of the Amazonian natural and cultural heritage.
