It will be less hot in Monte-Carlo in the coming days than north of the Loire, but escaping the heat wave is obviously not the only reason to take a trip to the Rock! The 61st edition of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival opens its doors this Friday until June 21. Five good reasons to attend the event.

Full of stars on the red carpet

After two years of health crisis, the international stars are back at the Grimaldi Forum… Many icons of the small screen are expected on the red carpet, such as Neal McDonough (Desperate Housewives, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Suits)Jason Priestley (Beverly Hills, Private Eyes, Call Me Fitz)Jane Seymour (Doctor Quinn, female doctor), Danny Glover (The lethal Weapon), Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy), Stepfanie Kramer (Rick Hunter), Darko Peric (Money Heist) or Melissa Sue Anderson (The Little House On The Prairie).

The youngest spectators will be delighted by the presence of two of France’s most famous YouTubers, Inoxtag and Michou, who will be accompanied by dancer and choreographer Elsa Bois.

Samy Naceri, Chantal Ladesou, Taylor Kinney, JoeyStarr and Cut Killer, the most famous of real estate agents Stéphane Plaza and journalist Hugo Clément will also make a visit to the Grimaldi Forum.

Full of series on the big screen

The Monte-Carlo Television Festival allows you to discover new series in the presence of celebrities. Matthew Fox (Lost) and Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey) will be the stars of the opening night where the world premiere of their new series will be screened, last night. A promising MGM program that explores the consequences of a potential oil supply collapse.

David Hasselhoff (Baywatch, K2000) will present his new series, entitled ZeNetwork, in which he embodies his own role. The selection also includes The Terminal ListAmazon Prime Video series, starring Chris Pratt, based on the novel of the same name by Jack Carr, The Offera miniseries by Michael Tolkin for Paramount +, which recounts the gestation and production of the film The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola.

Also in the running for the Golden Nymphs in the fiction category, The Tourist, British miniseries which stars Jamie Dornan as a victim of a car accident who wakes up in hospital with amnesia. A highly anticipated fiction, broadcast on France 2 this Monday at 9:10 p.m.

Jean Reno will star in two fictions: A Private AffairSpanish detective comedy for Amazon Prime Video set in Galicia in the 1940s, and in the adaptation of Marc Levy’s bestseller, All those things we haven’t said to each other.

A preview of the highly anticipated adaptation of Guillaume Musso’s novel The Girl and the Night will be presented exclusively. The festival also hosts Tromthe first-ever drama series from the Faroe Islands, which follows a journalist’s investigation into the disappearance of an animal rights and environmental activist, and Made in Osloa Norwegian series featuring a gynecologist ready to do anything to get pregnant.

The Monte-Carlo Television Festival offers signing sessions with series stars (reservation on the event website).

The opportunity to meet the heroes of successful French daily series (Tomorrow belongs to us, Here it all begins, More beautiful life, Such a big sun, Scenes of households, In family), but also American soap The Flames of loveand many others.

Conferences entitled “Behind The Scenes” also allow the public to interact with the talents present.

Full of reports and documentaries

The Monte-Carlo Television Festival also offers the opportunity to see or re-watch the best documentaries and reports from the past year. In the running in the documentary and news category, two French works, China: The Uyghur Tragedy and the Complément d’Enquête report, “Zelensky: The Clown Becomes a Warlord.”

We also mention Lucy and Desithe Amazon Prime Video documentary, directed by Amy Poehler that looks back on the journey of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz and how their sitcom I Love Lucy revolutionized Hollywood.

Out of competition, the documentary breaths of lifewill highlight the problems of the impact of man on a marine environment as fragile as that of the Mediterranean, and on cetaceans in particular.

Full of crowned heads

Created in 1961 by Prince Rainier III, in homage to his wife Princess Grace, the festival is organized under the High Patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco. The latter speaks at the opening and closing ceremony of the festival, and it is not uncommon for him to appear on the red carpet during a screening.

After several days of isolation due to Covid-19, Charlène of Monaco reappeared this Thursday alongside her husband Albert of Monaco, on the balcony of the prince’s palace. It is very likely that she will also make one or more appearances at the Grimaldi forum.
