“Tiempos Futuros”, the film inspired by one in a timeless, retro-futuristic and nocturnal Lima, premiered its official preview, where we follow a father and his son (Fernando Bacilio and Lorenzo Molina), who build machinery that, supposedly, will cause rain in the gray city for the first time.
The feature film directed by Víctor Checa, has obtained great international recognition for its original proposal that seeks to revalue science fiction in Peruvian cinematography. Attendees who go to see the function, confirmed for November 17, will find the capital of Peru turned into a disturbing fantastic universe.
“Our city is generally quite dystopian and timeless. And somehow the film is built from that perception. It is a timelessness closer to the future, to some decadent time”, says Checa, explaining the film in a past interview with El Comercio.
The filming was done especially at night, and the chosen locations were the abandoned buildings in downtown Lima, such as the old Savoy Hotel, the Tauro Cinema, etc.
The construction of the “rain machine” was carried out based on a scientific investigation of a thesis that explained how an apparatus that fulfilled this purpose could work. It took four months to get the final model seen in the film, which included metal, wood, crafts, technology, science, physics and a lot of creativity.
The production of the tape was completed in 2019, however, the post-production was extended due to the quarantine, although it finally ended up benefiting the sound engineers, since the limitations of social mobility helped them understand how a ghost town would work.
To date, “Tiempos Futuros” has toured important festivals around the world such as the Malaga Film Festival, Zonacine Official Selection; Barcelona Author Film Festival D ´A, Official Selection Talents; Guadalajara International Film Festival, Bilbao Fantastic Film Festival, Los Angeles Latino Festival, Lima Film Festival, the Beijing Film Festival where it received a Special Mention from the Jury, among others.
