Kanye West: his controversial comments that cost him a millionaire contract with a renowned sports brand

American rapper Kanye West is in the midst of a wave of criticism that has cost him the termination of a millionaire contract with a renowned sportswear brand.

Singer Kanye West, also known as Ye, stated that he does not tolerate anti-Semitism and any other type of hate speech.

It all started when Kanye West, also known as Ye, appeared at Paris fashion week wearing a T-shirt with the legend White lives Matter (“White lives matter to me”), a message alluding to the Black lives matter movement.

The ex-husband of Kim Kardashian and the sportswear firm Adidas worked together under the Yeezy brand, which ended today, Tuesday, October 25, with the official announcement of the transnational.

Days after his presentation at fashion week, the rapper launched anti-Semitic comments through his social networks and other media, prompting the Adidas brand to immediately withdraw all products related to the singer and not be sold anymore. .

Ye and Adidas thus ended an alliance of almost 10 years that has generated millions of dollars for both.

For Adidas, withdrawing this contribution resulted in a net loss of $250 million in 2022, as they themselves pointed out that the Yeezy brand was one of the most successful in the company’s history.

The messages that triggered Kanye West to lose the millionaire contract with Adidas are the following:

“I’m a little sleepy tonight, but when I wake up I’m going to do death with 3 in JEWISH PEOPLE.”

“The funny thing is that I can’t really be anti-Semitic because black people are also Jewish. You guys have toyed with me and tried to weed out anyone who opposes your agenda.”

Given these messages, Adidas announced the end of its contract with Ye, noting that they do not tolerate anti-Semitism and any other type of hate speech.

“Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness,” They pointed out in a statement.

Other brands that have also decided to terminate their contracts with Kanye West are the clothing brand Gap, the American bank JP Morgan, the fashion house Balenciaga, the talent hunting agency Creative artists agency, the film and television production company MRC, the latter affirmed that it will not broadcast the documentary inspired by the rapper’s life, which was already finished and ready to be released.
