They are back! Actors eddy murphy and Jonah Hill will star in “You”, the new comedy of Netflix directed by Kenya Barris that premieres this Friday, January 27 through the streaming platform. By the way, last Thursday the fun official trailer was released.
In the clip of more than three minutes, Jonah Hill gives life to Ezra, a young man who seeks to find the love of his life. “I feel like him. Alone, in a building, waiting, wondering what it’s like to have company,” he says.
One day, by chance, he gets into the wrong car and meets Amira Mohammed (Lauren London). Both begin a formal relationship until an impediment will arrive: Their families and prejudices. In particular, Akbar, the young woman’s father, played by Eddie Murphy. These two millennials will try to go ahead with their commitment, although her environment will make it difficult.
“Opposites attract. Families, no. A couple finds out when they have to confront their parents’ views on their relationship.”, adds the Netflix synopsis.
The cast of “You” is led by Jonah Hill (“The Wolf of Wall Street”), Lauren London (“No Regrets”) and Eddie Murphy (“Dr. Dolittle”). The team is completed by Nia Long, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny.
The film marks Kenya Barris’ debut as a feature film director, after serving as a screenwriter on projects like “Black-ish.” The American producer will introduce the themes of love through the lens of social conflict, turning “Ustedes” into his new exploration of racial stereotypes in the United States.
The title of the tape is a direct reference to the expression “You People” (“You”) that is used in racist speeches in the US to erase any trace of identity of an individual and reduce it to racial stereotypes.
