JB, happy with his Luces Award: Another special with Carlos Álvarez? What did he say about the return of the traveling comedians?

“This is the first time I have received an award as my own program, previously I received it as a joint program (‘El especial del humor’, in 2008). I feel very happy and excited because this is an acknowledgment of the public for a work of many years”, he nods.

As a child I watched television dreaming of being on it. The first time she appeared on the small screen she was 10 years old. It was in the Yola Polastri program, performing “Lamento Borincano”. The second time she was parodying Susana Higuchi in Augusto Ferrando’s “Trampoline to fame”, which became her springboard to “Risas y salsa”. Then came shows like “El Enchufe”, “JB, el imitador”, “El barrio en movimiento”, “El especial del humor” with Carlos Álvarez, “JB’s whatsapp”, among others. Since 2021 he has been in charge of “JB en ATV”, a humor space that consolidated him as one of the most important references of comedy in Peru.

“Before we could laugh at many things, now it is more difficult, we have had to self-regulate, adapt to changes, innovate. We released new sketches, like the famous ‘casting’, which worked very well. Families love it, especially children. And now that we have my brother, Alfredo, with us, we have been able to refresh the content that we offer, and have a great time because we have fun during the recordings and also outside of them.”, says the national comedian.

New proposals

Benavides, who has been doing comedy on television for more than three decades, is optimistic about the return of street comedians to Latina screens. The new space “Jirón del humor” brings together a diverse cast of artists: ‘Chino Risas’, Cachay, Dorita Orbegoso, ‘Pato’ Ovalle, Jhonny Carpincho, ‘Cara de chancho’, ‘Cholo’ Victor, among others.

“I think that we all have the right to work in television and this is a great opportunity for them. And don’t forget that I also work with former traveling comics: Dani Rosales and Cachito. Both are great talents”, he assures after pointing out that Rodolfo Carrión, the popular ‘Felpudini’, will also be part of the new channel 2 space.

“I understand that he is going to direct, it will be a great contribution, he is very talented and an extraordinary person. I’m glad they gave you that opportunity.”, precise.

After fifteen years, in September 2022, Jorge Benavides and Carlos Álvarez once again made a comedy television duo in “El Especial”, an ATV space with two editions. That meeting -as expected- achieved significant audience levels and left open the possibility of a new program together.

“I respect Carlos very much, we have worked for several years, we have made many generations laugh with our witticisms. After what we did, everything was pending, we did not talk about it again; but we are definitely aware that getting together would be a success, it could be on some Internet platform, for example on YouTube”, he comments.

Jorge Benavides does not imagine his life away from television and comedy, however, he assures that in some time we will not see him in front of cameras anymore. “Someday I will be behind alone, creating, producing, directing, discovering new talents. This is how I want to end”, he emphasizes.
