Stephanie Salas: her reaction to a question about ‘Luismi’, what she said about Christian Thorsen, Christian Bach and more

The actress Stephanie Salas he has led a life dealing with the ups and downs of fame and coming out with a smile on his face. As part of the Pinal Dynasty, she grew up the daughter of actress Sylvia Pasquel and granddaughter of Mexican film diva, Silvia Pinal. From his first appearances on television, the weight of his last name guaranteed him great media attention, giving him a great boost to his acting career.

It didn’t take long for that popularity to work against him. At the age of 18, Salas gave birth to her first daughter, Michelle, the result of an intermittent relationship that she had with the singer Luis Miguel. But her name was obscured in the press when “El sol de México” denied her paternity in repeated interviews. They had to spend another 18 years to legally recognize her, after performing her DNA test.

Today Michelle is 33 years old and despite some attempts on her part, she never managed to maintain a close relationship with her father. Proof of this is that the person chosen to accompany her to the altar during her next wedding with the businessman Danilo Díaz, is her mother.

In a virtual interview with the actress, regarding her upcoming arrival in Peru, she was asked about the upcoming nuptials and the presence (or absence) of Luis Miguel in the family circle. The answer was evasive, and she only managed to explain that he stayed out of the relationship between father and daughter. “It would be interesting if you asked the question to them”, he said emphatically.

For Salas, the stage with the musician is over and closed to welcome a new romance with the musician Pablo Valero, with whom she had her second daughter. This relationship also came to an end, but she has not closed the doors to love. Her latest controversial couple is the soap opera heartthrob Humberto Zurita (“La Reina del Sur”), with whom she will star in the play “Daddy dear”, at the Colegio San Agustín Auditorium this May 20 and 21.

What is your expectation days before your arrival in Peru?

You don’t know it, but I love Peru. A few decades ago I went to promote my first records from the 90s and I had an incredible time. I even remember that I went to the program [“Sinvergüenza”] of Christian Thorsen. They also took me to La Rosa Náutica, a restaurant with a very nice bridge that is on the beach. I have always liked the food there because I love gastronomy, it is a taste that I inherited from my father and my great-grandmother. I recently even won second place in the first season of Masterchef Celeby Mexico. So I love your country and I am very happy to arrive with “Dear Daddy”.

Humberto Zurita told El Comercio that he planned to stay in the country to visit Cusco and Machu Picchu, will you join him?

I’d love to. You only live once and if we are going to be there, why not.

Let’s talk about your facet as a singer. In the 90s, you had great success with your debut album “Ave María” and you have continued this passion. You recently released “Horizon of the Stars”. How would you describe your musical journey?

Music has always been my passion. I started my musical career with the song “Tonterías” for the telenovela “Baila Conmigo” (1992). Later, I had the opportunity to work with the renowned producer Oscar López, who worked with many rock artists from the 80s and 90s in Argentina and Mexico. He was in charge of finding a musical theme that would catapult me to success, and that’s how “Ave María” came about. I made a self-titled album with him and another titled “Corazón”, all that music is in my catalog [de streaming] like Stephanie Salas. After that experience I got involved in other artistic facets such as theater and cinema. It was only in 2010 that I resumed music, and this entire period comes out under the “Salas” label, because now I also produce my songs, and explore my facet as a DJ.

Didn’t you want to get fully involved in music after the popularity you achieved in your beginnings?

What happens is that, although I was very dedicated and focused on those two albums from the 90s, I had to take a break from my artistic life because I got pregnant with my second daughter, Camila Valero. For this maternity and [el periodo de] breastfeeding I separated myself a bit from the industry. When I resumed my career, the producer Morris Gilbert spoke to me to invite me to a great play called “The Vagina Monologues.” That was my return to the stage and, thanks to its great success, we spent several years on tour. Already in the early 2000s, the contract with my previous label ended [pero el catálogo permanece], so I resume my musical career as an independent producer. That is why my musical stage name is now called “Salas”.

Tell us now about the character with whom you will come to Peru. You play a conservative mother in “Daddy dear.”

Tatiana is a character that I love. She is the wife of Coquimbo, a couple who have a son named Lalito. Lalito is the boyfriend of Laurita, the daughter of Luis, a gallant, liberal and single man played by Humberto Zurita. It happens that Laurita wants to formalize her relationship and marry her boyfriend, Lalito, but having such conservative parents, Lalito asks her to find a mother to present to her parents. That is the plot, because who would think that the character of the false mother is Humberto himself. So that’s where all the entanglements start. My character begins to like Luisita very much, we are very close friends and we will establish a very intimate relationship. The plot of “Daddy dear” is interesting, funny and pleasant. It’s like seeing the things that one can do for the people they love.

How was your incorporation process to this work? You joined this tour replacing Aylín Mújica.

The rehearsals for this new revival of the play began in September, and I was present from the beginning because my relationship had just begun. [amorosa] with Humbert. I participated in the readings and was there during the staging and the premiere. However, on that journey, Aylín left the work for personal projects and well, that’s life. Sometimes things happen that way.

You had already worked with Humberto Zurita on other occasions, but now that you are a couple, has this experience been enriched?

I am very happy to have accepted the invitation to work alongside my love, an extraordinary actor and director who inspires me at his best. We have a lot of fun because we can travel and experience things on stage, grow with the characters and also ourselves as actors. Touring involves spending a lot of time together, traveling by plane, getting to the hotel, eating, and then going on stage. We are very close in that sense and we know how to handle it, we are adults.

“The plot of “Daddy dear” is interesting, fun and enjoyable. It’s like seeing the things that one can do for the people they love.”

Stephanie Salas, actress.

He said he was inspired by his late wife, Christian Bach, to shape the character of his character in “Dear Daddy.” You, who became close to her, do you think she does her justice?

Yeah, I saw him mention that in some reports, and it was interesting to read. Without a doubt, there is a great similarity between the two of them, they look a lot alike. So when you see him in the wig, she becomes a stunning woman, a god. Also, she dances very well. Humberto practiced martial arts when he was young, so he has control and body control that shows on stage. He really is a character worth seeing in the theater, because he is unique.

It was just four years ago since his death. But when Humberto is asked if he wants to remarry in view of your desire to get married, he dismisses the idea. Would you like me to change my mind?

What happens is that they began to approach him with that subject and it got a little out of control. It wasn’t me who broke the news [sobre la posibilidad de casarse], but it began to speculate and now this alleged dispute is news. It is false, we are living a great moment between the two of us, both personally and professionally, so we let time flow and we feel very happy. Soon we will celebrate our first anniversary together and we will see what the future holds. Let’s live in the here and now.

Personally, this tour will keep you busy throughout 2023. Do you have other projects that you want to move forward with?

This is a great year in labor and spiritual terms. Many things have happened. I do not plan to put aside my passion for gastronomy. I want to carry it out professionally and later open a little place, have my own gastronomic label. Also continue training in that education. That’s why I tell you that I love Peru, I plan to visit the best chefs and do some YouTube shows for my food channel “Food Sessions”. Also continue combining my acting and musical side, now with my new single “Horizonte de Estrellas”, which is undoubtedly very strong.

Besides…

“Dear Daddy”
