“Barbie”: how they managed to include Aqua’s song in the movie

There are only a few days left for the public to enjoy “Barbie” On cinemas. The film directed by Greta Gerwig (“Little Women”) will hit theaters next Thursday, July 20 in Latin America and, to liven up the wait, the trailer has given us a first glimpse of what will be the leading role of margot robbie (“Suicide Squad”). But, if there is something that has caught the attention of fans, it is the incorporation of the single “Barbie Girl” in the film.

Margot Robbie, remembered for her portrayal of Harley Quinn in “Suicide Squad”, was selected to give life to the Mattel doll, Barbie, in the film of the same name. During production, she made a special request to director Greta Gerwig.

For the Australian actress, it was essential that the song “Barbie Girl” by Aqua, which belonged to the group’s first studio album entitled “Aquarium” (1997), be part of the soundtrack or “soundtrack” of Barbie.

“I was like, ‘Greta, how are we going to incorporate this song? We can’t make a Barbie movie and not have a nod to Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’. It has to be there.” Robbie told Rolling Stones. The response he received from Gerwig at the time was that they were going to find “a cool way to incorporate it.”

Shortly after, Margot Robbie herself was surprised with the news that Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice would be remixing Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” for the film, which hits theaters in July. “When she (Greta Gerwig) said, ‘Guess who’s going to do the remix? from Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’? Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’. I was like, ‘Together? You’re kidding?!’ I knew right away that all my friends were going to lose their minds.”he added in the same interview.

Greta Gerwig’s new film follows the story of Barbie (Margot Robbie), who has just been kicked out of Barbieland for not being a perfect-looking doll. After that, she leaves for the human world to find her true happiness with Ken (Ryan Gosling).

The film inspired by the iconic Mattel doll stars Margot Robbie in the role of Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken.
