“Barney” will have his own movie!

The excitement to bring childhood toys to life continues and now more details are known about what will be the next “Barney” movie. The purple dinosaur, who is a Mattel character (just like Barbie), had his own children’s TV series in the 1990s and is coming to theaters soon.

As reported, the project has been in development for about three years. Do you want to know what this feature film about “Barney” will be about? Keep reading.

The president of Mattel Films, Kevin McKeon, announced that the plot of this film will address the obstacles that fans of the purple dinosaur have gone through growing up and entering adult life, in the same style as A24, the independent production company responsible for “Everything Everywhere All at Once”.

“We are not recharging on millennial angst for this project rather than targeting kids. It is for adults. Not that it’s going to be R-rated, but it will focus on the woes of being over thirty and growing up with Barney, just the level of disenchantment within that generation. It’s type A24, surreal”, he confirmed to The New Yorker.

For his part, British actor Daniel Kaluuya will be in charge of giving life to Barney in the next feature film and has been linked to the project for more than three years, according to what he told Yahoo! UK, to the “high level of demand” of the film.

“Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood. We’re excited to explore this compelling modern hero and see if his ‘I love you, you love me’ message can stand the test of time.”assured the interpreter to The Guardian in 2019.

The new tape of the Mattel character continues in the production process. Therefore, it is not yet known when it could be released in theaters.

So far, it has not been confirmed who will be the director of the “Barney” movie. On the other hand, as we have already mentioned, the only actor confirmed for the next film is Daniel Kaluuya, Oscar-winning actor for Best Supporting Actor in “Judas and The Black Messiah” (2021).

It should be noted that this would be just one of the next projects that Mattel Studios has in mind. There is also the possibility of bringing to the screen stories based on the games “Uno”, “Hot Wheels”, “Pollypocket” and “Masters of the universe”, among others.
