The Spanish actor Mario Casas returns to the scene with the new Netflix movie “Bird Box Barcelona”. The ‘spin-off’ of “Bird Box” (2018) arrived on the streaming platform this Friday, July 14, to tell more details about this apocalyptic universe where ‘entities’ or ‘creatures’ cause the death of anyone who dares to look at them.

In this new installment, Casas gives life to Sebastián, a family man who, after the explosion of the world crisis, only seeks to protect his daughter Anna (Alejandra Howard). But, an unforeseen event will change the course of the mission and it will soon become a kind of fight for survival mixed with revenge. Do you want to know what the end of “Bird Box Barcelona” means? Read on, but watch out for SPOILERS.

(SPOILERS ALERT!: details of what happens in the movie “Bird Box Barcelona) will be given below)

Before explaining the outcome, we must start at the beginning. After learning that the world has entered into a crisis and people are committing suicide for no reason, Sebastián (Mario Casas) looks for his daughter Anna (Alejandra Howard) at school. In that place they find Father Esteban (Leonardo Sbaraglia), who assures them that this (the apocalypse) is what he has been waiting for years.

When his wife dies in front of his eyes, hit by a taxi, Sebastián knows that he is alone in the mission to protect his little girl. This is how they prepare to go out into the outside world blindfolded in search of a refuge. But, soon they will meet Father Esteban again, who, in reality, is also an ‘entity’ or ‘creature’. At that moment, and seeing him in the eyes, Anna ends her life; but, on the contrary, Sebastián becomes a kind of ally of the ‘entities’: he can see them without having the desire to take his own life like the others and wants the rest of the world to see the ‘creatures’. It is there that he begins to look for a group of survivors to gain their trust and, later, cause their death with the ‘help’ of a ‘vision’ of little Anna who is already dead. (Fact: the glasses that Sebastián uses do allow him to see)

Taking this information into account, Sebastián has become involved with a new group of people who seek to reach a safe place. After the death of four of its members, only Claire (Georgina Campbell) and little Sophia (Naila Schuberth) remain, who hopes to find her mother in a shelter located on one of Barcelona’s hills. After so much evil, Sebastián seems to realize the damage he has caused and wants to protect them, so he takes them to the cable car that will take them up the mountain.

In order to buy time, the man stays at the door waiting for Father Esteban to stop him. “I am the hand of the Lord. A humble instrument of his will. Don’t turn your back on God.”, says the character of Sbaraglia to that of Mario Casas. In the middle of the confrontation, Sebastián attacks Esteban with a metal rod that ends up embedding it in both of them and they die; while Claire and Sophia manage to get on the cable car.

Once at the shelter, both are rescued by members of the army and are guided to a patio where the little girl is reunited with her mother and they confirm that there are more refugees. However, the story does not end there because Claire has to go through tests and an interrogation. “They’re trying to find out if I’m one of them, right?” emphasizes the character of Georgina Campbell. “We call them ‘seers’ and I’m surprised you survived an encounter with them”a soldier stands out to him.

There he also discovers that they are working to create a cure for the attack of the ‘creatures’. “Your DNA could be the key to creating immunity.” Immediately, the camera takes us to a laboratory where they are doing tests on animals based on what they have been able to extract from the DNA of a captured ‘creature’. Three adult rats are the object of study for the day and have been injected with a liquid to see how long they could last without dying after the encounter with the ‘creature’. However, everything gets out of hand and the captured ‘entity’ demands to see the ‘creatures’. Thus leaving an open ending.

“A mysterious force has wiped out the planet’s population, and Sebastián embarks on a journey for survival through the deserted streets of Barcelona.
