“My fault”: what does Mercedes Ron expect from the sequels on Prime Video?

“My big dream was to be a singer and to be a writer. I got one of the two, so I can’t complain,” he tells us. mercedes ron, the well-known Spanish-Argentine author who has been telling the time in recent weeks. At the beginning of June, she released the film “My fault”, the adaptation of his homonymous novel, which was in charge of the streaming platform Prime Video. The tape became, in its launch week, the most played on the service worldwide. Despite the fact that a few days have passed, the young woman’s eyes still shine when she talks about the project that involved a great detachment force so that her characters would come to life at the hands of professionals. But, the news does not stop and Mercedes arrived last week in Peru to present her new novel “30 sunsets to fall in love”, another bet on youth romance.

The writer came to Lima to reunite with her readers at the International Book Fair, after more than five years to publicize the first part of the bilogy “Bali” together with the publisher Penguin Random House. She remembers with great affection that first approach with the Peruvians in 2018. “I know that years have passed and that my readers have grown and I will surely meet new readers. That’s what excites me the most.” tells Skip Intro of El Comercio.

“30 sunsets to fall in love with” tells the love story between Nikki, a young veterinarian who lives on one of the Bali islands, and Álex, a British pilot who arrives at the oasis to clear his mind and escape from his reality. The novel has a bit of everything: romance and mystery, with a touch of reality that Mercedes Ron added by setting it on the island of Bali, located in Indonesia, where she was trapped for four months in 2020 after the emergency declaration by COVID-19. “My sister and I were stranded and the truth is that I fell in love with the islandof the culture, of the people. It’s obviously a beautiful place. So how could I not write a love story set there?”add.

Although she did not start writing the novel during those vacations, but rather later in 2022. It took her only six months to write it because, as the author confesses, publishing times are getting shorter and shorter and she must deliver the manuscripts. “It’s a lot of pressure, so I have to get used to it.”, said. But, something that had not happened to her before, and that -by chance- happened with “30 sunsets to fall in love with” is that Mercedes Ron suffered what is known as “writer’s block”. “It was difficult because, after writing the ‘Dímelo’ trilogy, which was three books in one year, that burns me a lot. I spent two years without writing until I was able to get this book out. I think it helped me to disconnect and reconnect much more strongly and come back with much more desire ”, accurate. Although, this story will have to compete with the “Culpable” trilogy that has as its first installment “Culpa Mía”, which has just arrived as a film adaptation to streaming worldwide.

“My fault” fell in love with the world

“This is the best book-to-film adaptation ever made”, this is how the public that has been able to enjoy streaming “Culpa Mía” defines it. The job of making the story as faithful as possible to the novel was complicated, although, once screened, Mercedes Ron herself says she was satisfied with the result.

The Spanish-Argentine author began the story of Noah and Nick in 2016; she kept it to herself until she began to seek support from different publishers, from which she received no response. Since Mercedes was sure that the romance of these young people, whose parents were married, would win over readers, she opted for the alternative that was within her reach: uploading “Culpa Mía” to the Wattpad reading platform. Her dream was for thousands of people to read it, but she didn’t achieve just that: she currently has more than 63 million readings on the app.

“It was a dream that I wanted with all my might and I really believed in ‘Culpa Mía’, in the complete saga. I always thought that if (the books) fell into good hands, I could go far.. But obviously it was always dreaming. I dont believe it”narrowed.

As we mentioned lines, the film adaptation directed by Domingo González for Prime Video arrived on June 8 at the service with the Spanish actors Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara as the protagonists Noah and Nick, respectively.

“When you do an adaptation you have to relax a bit and take it easy, because it really can’t be exactly the same as the book. But I tried to fight for everything that could be done audiovisually to be done and I think they listened to me And that’s why the movie is so faithful to the book.” the author told us.

Due to the great reception from the followers, the streaming platform decided to renew the saga for two more installments to continue the love story. And, if there’s one thing that Mercedes Ron does or does want in these sequels, it’s to see Noah and Nick racing in the same car. We have those police chase races in the second book where Nick and Noah are in the same car. and I really want to see it”he added.

Finally, it is curious to mention that, despite the fact that all her stories are about romance, the writer does not consider herself a romantic person. “My boyfriend tells me a lot that to be a romantic author I could be a little more in my day to day. I think that all the romanticism I leave for books, and in my daily life I am a little more distant, a little colder “he confesses between laughs.

Even Mercedes Ron herself confessed to us that her favorite literary genre is not romance, but fiction and fantasy, having as her favorite books the “Harry Potter” and “Twilight” sagas. It is for this same genre that one of her next works that are still in progress, and of which we could have news soon, points to.
