“Manco Cápac” is chosen as a Peruvian candidate for the 2022 Oscar Awards

The movie “Manco Capac”, recorded in Puno and directed by the filmmaker Henry Vallejo Torres, has been selected as a candidate for the awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the United States. The nominated films will be announced on February 8, 2022.

The official announcement was made by the Ministry of Culture. The feature film was selected through a voting system carried out by an autonomous committee, made up of representatives of film unions and associations in the country.

In this way, “Manco Cápac” will be considered among the international pre-candidacies seeking a place among the nominees for the Best International Feature Film category, in the 94th edition of the Oscar Awards.

In Peru, Henry Vallejo Torres’ film was seen for the first time in the official competition of the 24th Lima Film Festival, where Jesús Luque (Elisbán) received the Best Actor Award. So far, “Manco Cápac” has been selected in more than 10 international festivals.

“Manco Cápac” tells the story of Elisban; a young man who arrives in the city of Puno too late to meet his friend Hermogenes, with whom he should work. Homeless and penniless, he survives from small, unstable jobs, in a city that deepens his loneliness at every turn. The inertia of continuing to walk can lead you to a better destination.

It should be noted that “Manco Cápac” is the second Puno film to be selected as a Peruvian representative for the Oscar Awards, the first was “Wiñaypacha” (2018) by Oscar Catacora.
