Spotify declares September 29 as Shakira Day

Spotify will honor Shakiraone of the most recognized Colombian artists, declaring September 29, the day that marks the 25th anniversary of the release of her album “Where are the thieves”, as “Shakira Day”.

“Spotify announces #ShakiraDay, responding to the call of fans, who have been key in amplifying the message. “This initiative is a tribute to the artist who has represented Colombia with pride before the world for many years,” said the leader of relations with artists and record labels for Spotify in the Andean region, Manuela Echeverry.

That day commemorates a quarter of a century since the release of his fourth studio album, “Where are the thieves”, which includes “Ciega, Sorormuda” or “Si te vas”, which became the best-selling Spanish album in the United States. United and it was his takeoff as the world star he is today.

“A notable moment in my career since I made my world debut with ‘Where the Thieves Are’ is having sung at three World Cups, having participated in a Super Bowl and having debuted in Billboard’s Top 10 after more than 30 years! ”, the artist told Spotify’s For The Record blog.

This initiative is part of the campaign that Spotify launched in recent days in Colombia and Latin America, #ShakiraDeservesUnDía, where they also conducted a survey that reveals that 72% of Colombians surveyed believe that, without a doubt, the Barranquilla artist deserves to have a day in his honor.

“It is also an opportunity for us, as a country, to celebrate our music”said Echeverry.

According to the platform’s survey, 37% believe that Shakira has transformed the image of Colombia worldwide and 31% value her for the drive and influence she has had on other artists.

Shakira is living a new golden moment after her breakup with soccer player Gerard Piqué, after which she has released hits like “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” and “TQG” (along with her compatriot Karol G), that have reached the first position in the Global Top on Spotify.

“In the case of Colombia, these songs along with “Te felicito” and “Acróstico” have been the artist’s most popular songs during the last 12 months,” secured the platform.

The Barranquilla native was the star at the MTV music channel’s Music Video Awards (VMA) gala held this week, where she won an award in tribute to her career, the Video Vanguard Award, which she dedicated to her “Latin American people.” and another with his countrywoman Karol G for their collaboration “TQG”.

Shakira also starred in one of the great stellar performances in which she compressed into 10 minutes a tour of the successes of her career: from “Wheneven, Wherever” to “Loba” through the collaboration with the Argentine producer Bzrp.

The artist will be in her native Barranquilla this Saturday to inaugurate another school of her Pies Descalzos Foundation.
