Fernando Botero’s body is laid to rest at the National Capitol of Colombia

The body of the Colombian painter Fernando Botero arrived at the National Capitol of Colombia to receive posthumous tributes from authorities and compatriots.

At 10:15 in the morning, the artist’s coffin arrived at the burning chamber of the Capitol for the next few days. Covered with a flag of his country and escorted by the Presidential Guard, Botero’s remains were installed in the State compound.

The first to arrive to receive Botero’s body were the Government ministers and representatives of the chambers of deputies. For their part, the painter’s relatives were present at the ceremony.

The president of the House of Representatives, Andrés Calle, said goodbye to the painter on behalf of his Government, highlighting that Botero was an artist who sought peace.

“One of his legacies was to speak of peace. Today Colombians seek peace. “It is no coincidence that today, a day after the International Day of Peace, we meet in the Hall of Democracy to say goodbye to someone who always sought a country in peace in his art,” he commented.

For her part, Lina Botero, daughter of the artist, highlighted the teachings that her father left her. “He taught me that generosity is not lived with words. “She taught me to love Colombia and its roots unconditionally,” story.
