Yirko Sivirich conquers New York with garments inspired by the Peruvian guinea pig

One of his many trips to Ollantaytambo (Cusco) inspired the designer Yirko Sivirich for the starting point of his next collection: the Peruvian guinea pig. “I visited a guinea pig farm and inspiration came immediately: I saw fresh alfalfa, sacks, soguillas and guinea pigs of multiple colors, white, cream, beige, khaki, brown and black. I closed my eyes and began to imagine the collection. In truth, until that moment I would never have imagined it.”, he specifies.

From that moment, at the beginning of this year, creativity flowed organically and the couturier created a collection of 35 timeless outfits that he named “QUWI“, a word that means guinea pig in Quechua. “I included a variety of textures with fibers such as linen, cotton, drill and hand embroidery. In addition, the silhouettes are in line with the brand’s style, in pieces such as blazers, shirts, jackets and light sweaters.“, he explains, also detailing that the colors of the collection are aligned with the fur of these animals, contrasting with more vibrant tones such as lilac, which is inspired by the alfalfa flower.

A preview of the creation for the spring-summer 2024 season that he imagined Sivirich It was presented in style on The Lab catwalk at New York Fashion Week. “Despite being a collection for the hot season, I always try to create timeless and varied pieces, without falling into extremes. I do it thinking about the fact that the climate is different in all countries”, he indicates.
