Maná donates part of the proceeds from its concerts to the street vendors of Los Angeles

The rock group Manna announced this Monday that he will donate part of the proceeds from his concerts in Los Angeles to street vendors in that city in southern California (USA).

The donation from the Mexican group, which will be presented on November 24 and 25 at the Los Angeles Forum, will be used to purchase mobile carts approved by the local Department of Public Health, as reported today by the Community Power Collective.

“We are proud to support street vendors in Los Angeles by helping with the development of these carts, which we hope will allow them to work, share our culture and support their families with dignity and without fear of being criminalized”Maná vocalist Fher Olvera said in a statement.

The group, winner of four Grammy Awards and nine Latin Grammy Awards, has joined forces with local artist and activist Ernesto Yerena to create a limited edition screen print with the band’s image, the proceeds of which will go to this campaign.

Maná has been successfully completing a “residency” at the Los Angeles Forum, the first one he has held in that Californian city and where he has offered 14 recitals to date.

Recently, a version of ‘Amor Clandestino’, a song included in his album ‘Drama y Luz’ (2011) made in collaboration with the performer Edén Muñoz, was placed in first place on Billboard magazine’s regional Mexican list.

The Community Power Collective is part of the coalition of street vendors, community organizations, elected officials and activists advocating for street vendors’ rights and economic inclusion.

Los Angeles authorities granted the first sales permit to a street vendor in 2020 after a campaign in favor of the legalization of street commerce that began in 2008.

However, according to figures from the local Public Works Department, to date this program has granted permits to only 204 of the more than 10,000 street vendors that occupy the sidewalks of the Californian city.
