“It was worth believing even though there were doors that rang harshly when they closed.”

Fonseca (Bogotá, 1979) sent flowers that he found along the way. She sang about love, sorrow, spite and pain. For everything he has experienced and learned, the Colombian singer-songwriter today sings about life, memories, family and friends. “Canto a la vida”, the second preview of his next album, is an ode to memories. Probably his most intimate and personal musical delivery.

This song means many things to me because it is a tribute to memory, gratitude and life, as its name says. Carrying that message is very special because I feel that it is important for all of us to celebrate our own stories and experiences. And music is always tied to that. And how nice to be able to generate songs to touch the heart in that sense.”, comments the eight-time Latin Grammy winner.

The refreshing proposal of the Colombian artist mixes the sound of Latin pop with Colombian folk rhythms. It was born during a productive and pleasant meeting between Fonseca and Yasmil Marrufo and Servando Primera. A conversation about life, playing guitar and drinking a beer.

For a long time we wanted to get together to write, but it didn’t happen. I once had to cancel a planned session at the last minute. Life didn’t let us get together, until, finally, it happened. We meet at Yasmil’s house. I arrived about an hour late, because of traffic, embarrassed, nervous. We sat on the terrace, we talked about what we feel when everything is good, there is health, a nice family and friends. And how important it is to take a photograph in moments like those. And I’m not just referring to physical or digital photos, but also mental ones.”, he clarifies.

celebration of love

The Colombian artist released “If you want me” in April 2023, the first single from the album that he plans to release in May of next year. The song was recorded in collaboration with the Dominican Juan Luis Guerra and recently won a Latin Grammy in the category Best Tropical Song.

I never make a song thinking about winning an award because I am convinced that if you look for that, what you least expect will happen. You can’t direct music because it has a life of its own. Grab the path you want to grab. With this song that marks what I want my next sound to be, that happened”, he asserts.

With more than 20 years on stage, Fonseca remembers his beginnings as a time of great enthusiasm and dedication. He claims to have spent sleepless nights imagining his future and thinking about how he would make his music transcend and fall in love, as he does now.

I dreamed of being on stage, of doing interviews, of having a recording studio and going on tours. I didn’t know if I would achieve it, but I am sure that I have always dreamed of it.“, account. “What would I tell my 12 year old who wrote his first song? He would tell her that it was worth believing despite episodes of doors closing, which sounded harsh when they closed, especially at the beginning.”, he recalls.

Currently, Fonseca is in the middle of Viajante Tour, a tour in which he promotes his eighth studio album, composed and produced during the pandemic.

Precisely, the reason why I named the previous album “’Viajante’” was because I found a definition of a traveling salesman where I said that this, unlike the traveler, remained intact and moved from one place to another being as it was. When I read that I thought about my commitment to music. I serve through my music: I ground feelings, I turn them into songs and I make them available to those who want to make them their own. That is my greatest achievement”, he remarks.
