The British Cultural Center of Miraflores will host the exhibition “until December 17Haptic Imagination: Historicizing fabric technologies”, an exhibition by the Peruvian artist Carolina Estrada. The exhibition presents a series of works that Estrada produced in Lima and London from 2015 to 2023, offering an exploration of textile as an expressive and sensory medium.
The exhibition includes 16 pieces that represent an evolution in Estrada’s work, addressing topics such as climate change, migration, and the indigenous worldview. The artist’s initial works focus on historical references from Peru, while her most recent works seek to expand the sensory experience through woven sculptures and interactive pieces.
Carolina Estrada, with a career that includes participation in international events and several distinctions, is presented as a relevant voice in contemporary art. “Haptic Imagination” offers an opportunity to appreciate her approach to textile art and her interpretation of current issues.
An element that stands out in this exhibition is the series “Unstitching the Republic” (2016), where Estrada collaborated with artists and community leaders such as Olinda Silvano, Teodoro Ramírez and Máxima Acuña. This series uses military clothing as inspiration to address local themes, using fabric as a tool of artistic expression.
“Haptic Imagination” is not just an exhibition, but an invitation to explore and rethink textile art and its impact on our perception of the world. Through this exhibition, Carolina Estrada solidifies her place as one of the most innovative and relevant voices in Peruvian and global contemporary art.
