“Venom 2” achieves the best US premiere since the pandemic began

“Venom: Let There Be Carnage”, the sequel to the hit “Venom” (2018), this weekend became the best theatrical release since the coronavirus pandemic began, raising $ 90.1 million.

The film thus surpassed “Black Widow”, which in its release in early July earned $ 80.4 million, although that tape was released simultaneously in cinemas and television while “Venom 2” has done so exclusively in theaters. .

The record obtained for the second installment of the “Venom” saga is a very positive figure for theaters, which have not seen such collections for more than a year. In fact, the premiere of the sequel raised more money than the debut of the first film in 2018, which amassed $ 80.2 million in 2018, recalled the portal Box Office Mojo.

The second animated installment of the Addams family also performed well, albeit much more discreetly. “The Addams Family 2” grossed 18 million in its first weekend, far from the 30 million that “The Addams Family” made in 2019 but above expectations.

The animated film has the voices of Óscar Isaac, Charlize Theron and Chloë Grace Moretz in its English dubbing.

For its part, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” came in third place by adding 6 million dollars to its more than 200 million raised, with which last week it became the highest grossing film of the year in USA. This was his fifth week on the billboard.

Finally “The Many Saints of Newark”, prequel to the series “The Sopranos”, failed in its premiere and did not go beyond the fourth position with 5 million dollars raised.

The film, which tells the origins of Tony Soprano, the main character of the series, is also available on the television platform HBO Max, which would have reduced its audience in theaters. “Dear Evan Hansen” took the fifth rung, with $ 2.5 million.
