Tanpu Intercultural aims to revitalize the native cultures of Peru

The project Intercultural Tanpu of art and education seeks to revitalize the native cultures of Peru and respect for its territories and the environment. The project has been managed by Naomi Moreno and Clara Best since 2020 and has been the winner of different recognitions such as the Economic Stimulus funds for Social Transformation from the Ministry of Culture of Peru in the years 2020 and 2022.

Tanpu Intercultural carries out multidisciplinary artistic workshops that serve as triggers for dialogue about identity, community, culture and environment. The workshops are held in the spaces called Tambos of the Country Program of the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion of Peru (MIDSI), spaces that have adequate infrastructure and equipment to carry out the dynamics that make up the workshops.

In previous years, they visited five Quechua and Aymara communities, among other cultures; while this year they visited Asheninka communities and Quechua migrants in Pasco. The managers carried out the workshops ‘More than one skin color’ on self-portraits, ‘My community of the future’ on natural dyes, ‘Guardians of the forests’ on masks with eco-friendly materials, and ‘Stop motion’ with body explorations.

This year, the project has been awarded with the Networks and Platforms fund of the Ministry of Cultural of Peru, which will allow teachers to be trained with art and education tools to dialogue about identity and territory with their respective students, and thus generate continuity in the places previously visited.
