Pedro Suárez-Vertiz passed away: The reasons why the rocker walked away from music

The death of Pedro Suárez-Vértiz left the Peruvian music scene in shock. The artist died at the age of 54 after battling for several years with an incurable disease identified as ‘bulbar palsy’, the same one that forced him to leave the stage more than a decade ago.

In 2011, the rocker revealed that it made it difficult for him to speak, breathe and chew. The progression of the disease also made it impossible for him to provide interviews in recent years. Even so, even though he could no longer sing, those close to him indicated that he continued to compose.

That diagnosis forced him to stop singing. Precisely, during his birthday in February 2023, he explained how this event changed the life of him and his family, because although he could not speak, he constantly expressed himself through his Facebook and Instagram accounts.

After two years of investigations, they gave me the news. 10 years ago I was in the south, on the beach, and my wife and I got up early to come to Lima for my appointment with the neurologist. because they had to adapt to this destiny so different from what we all imagined”he said on his social networks.

Suárez-Vértiz left a musical legacy for several generations of Peruvians thanks to his work in Arena Hash and later as a soloist. Among his most remembered songs are “When you think about coming back”, “I’m falling in love”, “How are you doing, honey”and more.
