From “La Rosa de Guadalupe” to Hollywood: Eduardo Minett reveals what it was like to record with Clint Eastwood and what wise advice he gave him

“When I saw Clint Eastwood approaching me, imposing, in his cowboy hat and denim jacket, my heart began to beat a thousand per hour. The 15-year-old Mexican artist ventured into acting as a child, in soap operas and successful unitarians, such as “La Rosa de Guadalupe” and “Como dice el saying.” At his young age, he has managed to accumulate great artistic experience on television and was already a familiar face – especially in Mexico – before making his debut on the big screen. Currently, after “Cry Macho, his name sounds worldwide. “It changed my life completely,” he says.

The teenager agreed to the casting of the Warner Bros. film through his representation agency. And what excited him most about this project was that it had Clint Eastwood as its director and actor.

“It was a virtual casting, I prepared it with my acting coach, it was two scenes,” recalls Eduardo Minett. “And really the selection process was very fast. A month after submitting my video, Warner called me to inform me that Eastwood had selected me for the film and that filming would begin in a month. I was in Mexico City, many feelings came together: excitement, nerves, fear, “he adds.

On November 4, 2020, the actor arrived in the United States accompanied by his parents to join the recordings of “Cry Macho”, playing Rafo. It was his Hollywood debut. And before an imposing scene, Eduardo’s nerves grew.

I remember that the first thing I saw of him were his boots, he was far away. They were a lot of nerves, but one of the good ones, ”says the teenager.

Synopsis

“Cry Macho” is a moving drama that tells the story of ‘Mike Milo’ (Clint Eastwood), a former rodeo star and run-down horse breeder, who, in 1979, accepts a job from his former boss, which consists of in bringing ‘Rafo’ (Eduardo Minett), his son, from Mexico. Forced to start a journey together, the pair face challenging experiences that lead them to forge a great friendship.

“It was something too nice, because before participating in this film I had received some ‘no’ for an answer,” he adds.

When the filming of the American feature film began, the actor who rose to fame playing the Man with No Name in the spaghetti westerns known as the ‘Dollar Trilogy’ gave Minett some recommendations.

It also gave me a bit of freedom and so, with things clear, we started recording. Everything flowed, there was no pressure. He had the right words and it was a lot of fun, “says the teenager after narrating one of the most challenging scenes in the film.

“When ‘Rafo’ tells his life story, his past, Clint asked me that, although my character feels male and males do not cry, to fill my eyes with tears and not let them fall. It took me a lot of work, but I did it and I am very happy with the result, ”he says.

In Eduardo Minett’s life there is a before and after “Cry Macho”. The actor assures that after being part of this great production, film producers and directors have paid more attention to his work.

“Obviously there are more interviews, recognitions and interest on the part of people who make films; but what I prefer to emphasize is that I am not the same person because as an individual I have grown artistically. I learned a lot because the discipline that Clint has, at 91 years old, is incredible. I also learned to enjoy the present and to work based on it ”, he emphasizes.

“Probably next year I will move to Los Angeles because I would like to balance my career between Mexico and the United States or anywhere in the world where there are opportunities for characters and stories to tell,” says the actor.

From Peruvian cinema, Minett has as references the director Francisco Lombardi and the actor and director Bruno Ascenzo. “I always try to see actors and directors who are not only from Mexico. I admire Lombardi and another of my great references is Bruno ”, he points out.

In Minett’s life, music also has great relevance. The guitarist, who is the image of the Gibson guitar brand, is preparing a record production and admits to being an admirer of the Peruvian Charlie Parra del Riego.

“Charlie is also the image of Gibson, I admire him, I would like to meet him in person, to play together. Going on stage with him is a dream that I hope to make a reality soon ”, he concludes.
