The director Christopher Nolanwinner this year among critics and the public with ‘Oppenheimer’, will receive an Honorary César award in the 49th edition of the most important awards in French cinema, which will be presented on February 23 in Paris.
In announcing its decision this Friday, the César Academy highlighted the “passion” and “unwavering commitment” of Nolan (with dual nationality, British and American) to the cinematographic experience, something that has served to continually expand the limits of the narration.
“Christopher Nolan is a masterful director, capable of redefining the limits of cinematic excellence and transporting us beyond the boundaries of space and time. “He transcends cinema to make it an unforgettable experience.”indicated the French film institution in a statement.
‘Oppenheimer’, which with the awards accumulated so far points as a favorite for the next Oscar gala, is considered by the César Academy not only to be a “worldwide phenomenon”, but also a “masterpiece”.
Nolan’s resume also includes other titles that have left a deep mark on cinema in recent years, such as ‘Inception’, ‘Tenet’, ‘Interstellar’ and ‘The Dark Knight’.
Along with Nolan, the French actress, screenwriter and director Agnès Jaoui will also receive another Honorary César, who at 59 years old will thus lift a statuette for the seventh time and will reinforce her status as the most awarded woman in the history of these awards.
In the past, figures such as David Fincher (2023), Cate Blanchett (2022), Robert Redford (2019), Penélope Cruz (2018), George Clooney (2017), Michael Douglas (2016) and Sean Penn (2015) have also received this distinction. ).
The list of nominees for the 2024 Césars will be announced on January 24.
