“The astronaut” on Netflix: Adam Sandler and his commitment to science fiction | VIDEO

It’s almost a habit to watch two or three new movies Adam Sandler per year in Netflix, a streaming giant with which the actor has a million-dollar agreement whose specifications are kept under lock and key. And this March 1st it will be the turn to see him star “The astronaut”.

We are faced with a science fiction story based on a book, with an extremely talented director and which – as has happened in several of the latest films starring the beloved ‘Sandman’ – includes a very interesting cast.

“THE ASTRONAUT”: WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

The astronaut” (“Spaceman” by its original title in English) is a 1 hour and 47 minute long film directed by Johan Renck, responsible for films such as “Chernobyl”, and some episodes of notable series such as “Breaking”. Bad” and “The Walking Dead.”

The film is based on “The Bohemian Astronaut” (2017), the first novel by the Czech writer living in the United States, Jaroslav Kalfar.

Described as a great novel that evokes the worlds of the Japanese Haruki Murakami and the also Czech Milan Kundera, the official summary says the following:

Orphaned as a child, and raised in rural Czechoslovakia by his grandparents under particularly difficult circumstances, Jakub Procházka is a young astrophysicist poised to become his country’s most famous astronaut. When a dangerous mission to Venus gives him the opportunity to proclaim himself a national hero and, at the same time, to atone for the sins of his father—an infamous collaborator in the communist era—Jakub decides to launch into unknown space. If leaving his wife behind already plunges him into uncertainty, finding himself completely alone in the vastness of the universe, he cannot avoid being visited not only by some ghosts from the past, but, above all, a very real ghost, of non-human forms, with whom he forms an increasingly close friendship. Jakub’s fate, closely linked to the milestones of Czech history, will take more than one unexpected turn. In a dreamlike atmosphere in which the intergalactic is allied with the most everyday, and fantasy permeates the most tangible, including unappealable facts, nothing seems decided in advance. And yet, insistent shadows project their tentacles on the vital journey undertaken by Jakub.

In Renck’s adaptation, Adam Sandler has the role of astronaut Jakub. His wife, Lenka, is played by the brilliant Carey Mulligan, who just played Felicia Montealegre, the wife of Leonard Bernestein (Bradley Cooper) in the Oscar-nominated “Maestro,” also produced under the Netflix umbrella. .

As we said above, “The astronaut” has a quite interesting cast, where, in addition to Mulligan and Sandler, actors like Paul Dano stand out, playing Hanuš, the strange being who tries to contain Jakub’s worries while maintaining his mission in space.

Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin and Isabella Rossellini also share credits in this dramatic bet that is based on the science fiction genre.

Below, we share the official summary of the Netflix film, whose exact premiere time in Peru is 3 am on Friday, March 1:

Six months into a lonely research mission to the far reaches of the solar system, astronaut Jakub (Adam Sandler) becomes desperate when he realizes his marriage may not last until he returns to Earth. But in the bowels of the ship lies a mysterious ancient being who will help him fix things with his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan). The creature, named Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano in the original version), reviews the pitfalls of their relationship with Jakub before it is too late.

During the press conference held at the last Berlinale, Sandler focused on how complicated it was to work tied to cables every day, even more so because at his age “his body is no longer so flexible.”

In turn, Mulligan highlighted that the strange character of Hanus helps with his interactions to dwell on the important things in life. “If we could all have a friendly little spider that would tell us that, wouldn’t it be wonderful, you know?” She said, according to the Reuters agency.
