Gustavo “Hit” Moreno, pioneer of the Peruvian new wave, died at the age of 86

The singer Gustavo Matos Moreno, known as Gustavo ‘Hit’ Moreno, died this Tuesday, March 5 at the age of 86. His death occurred at 4 in the morning at the Edgardo Rebagliati Martins National Hospital due to cardiac arrest, as confirmed by his nephew Sandro Matos.

Moreno was admitted to a hospital due to pneumonia and respiratory complications. During this stage, he was accompanied by his wife Rossana Cárdenas, who was his companion for more than 40 years of marriage.

“Rest in peace, dear uncle. “I will always remember you as my great reference in singing, charismatic like few others,” Matos wrote in a social media post.

“Life was your school and many times the wind went against you, but you never gave in. I’m sure we’ll see each other again. Goodbye, Gustavo ‘Hit’ Moreno”, he added in his Facebook post.

It should be noted that the Peruvian Association of Authors and Composers (APDAYC) confirmed that the artist’s remains will be laid to rest in the hall of the Los Incas Auditorium of the Ministry of Culture of Peru, located at Javier Prado Este 2465, San Borja, until 10:00 pm today and tomorrow from 8:30 am

As is known, Gustavo Matos Moreno was born in Lima and began his artistic career in 1954, being considered one of the pioneers of the new wave movement in Latin America.

His romantic style was reflected in songs such as “Magia blanca”, “Norma”, “Pensemos un poco en vivir”, “Mi secreto” and “Sabor a sal”, which made him known in the region during the decade of 1960.

In addition to Peru, Gustavo Matos Moreno achieved great international success, touring cities in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela with his music.
