Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan: everything we know about his new film

Timothée Chalamet will be the protagonist of “A Complete Unknown”, the biographical film of the legendary singer Bob Dylan, which will be played by the 28-year-old young actor in a role for which he has been preparing for years.

“I haven’t stopped preparing for this role, which has been one of the greatest gifts for me,” Chalamet told Variety. It has been “a wonderful experience” for the “Dune” and “Wonka” actor, a film in which he shows his singing skills and with which director James Mangold decides to give him a musical voice in “A Complete Unknown.”

Mangold, director of “Indiana Jones and the Doom Dial,” is one of Lucasfilm’s trusted filmmakers. He was introduced as the new boss of “Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi” at a celebration of the franchise in London.

Regarding the film starring Chalamet, Mangold recognized a story that goes through “an incredible time in American culture.” “I’m talking about the story of the young 19-year-old Bob Dylan who arrives in New York with 2 dollars in his pocket and becomes a global sensation in three years, being welcomed for the first time and as part of the folk music family in NY. At a certain point, as the star rises, it surpasses them,” the director told Collider.

The film is officially filming, so there are no further details about the story. According to IMDb, the drama is based on Dylan’s electric controversy, when the singer decides to switch from acoustic folk music to using the electric guitar in 1965.

“It’s so incredible, it’s such an interesting true story and about such an interesting time in the American scene. Different characters, from Woody Guthrie to Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger and Joan Baez. “Everyone has a role to play in this movie,” James Mangold told Collider.

Chalamet was filming in New York on Sunday, March 17. He was seen characterized as the singer-songwriter, as he was wearing jeans and a scarf, while he held a guitar in one hand and a notebook in the other.

Although there is no confirmed release date for “A Complete Unknown”, but, with the start of filming, production is expected to run in record time to reach 2025.

The film’s script was written by James Mangold and Jay Cocks, critic for Times and Rolling Stones magazines and also screenwriter of “The Age of Innocence” and support of “Titanic.”
