Juan Luis Guerra celebrates being surrounded by friends in his first adventure in the cinema

The Dominican singer Juan Luis Guerra This Monday in Santo Domingo he presented the animated film ‘Captain Wasp’, his first foray into the world of cinema, for which he surrounded himself with his closest friends and “the most beautiful voices” he knows.

“I was crazy for this day to come, I had had this question in my head for five and a half years,” said the Dominican artist, 66, in relation to this project of which he is the producer and which will reach 33 countries around the world, including the United States, Brazil and Spain, where it will premiere on June 7.

At the presentation of this film, which is expected to be historic for animated cinema in the Dominican Republic due to its great impact and because it was filmed exclusively in the Caribbean country, world-renowned figures gathered who participated in this project, such as the Colombian actress Karen Martínez, who, she said, felt “too honored” when they thought of her for the project.

The Puerto Rican Luis Fonsi and the Mexican Joy Huerta, who provided the vocals for ‘Mi amor’, the main song of the film and which was written by Juan Luís Guerra, stated that they said ‘yes’ immediately when they were asked to participate in the film.

“After five years of waiting, every time I saw Juan Luis I asked him about the film,” Fonsi explained before confirming that, although he voices the main character, Captain Avispa, “the real captain” is the Dominican artist.

Although they highlighted that the work team was “very small” compared to other international productions and that Juan Luis Guerra confirmed that “he didn’t know anything about this world” before launching into this project, the singer assured that it was “a blessing” to be able to gather all his friends who helped him at all times, which for him was “a dream.”

All the artists highlighted that the production team made the adaptation process very easy for them and that everyone enjoyed this filming that took so many years. “We started with the music in 2019,” confirmed Jonnathan Meléndez, director of the film along with Jean Guerra, son of Juan Luis Guerra.

In this way, Juan Luís Guerra wanted to assess the tremendous difficulty that the making of ‘Captain Wasp’ had in order to enjoy this moment and denied that he was thinking about another film.

The Dominican Republic and Bolivia will be the first two countries where this animation will be launched on April 4 and will later reach another 31 countries around the world.
