“The Blue Star”, by Javier Macipe, wins the Nantes Spanish Film Festival

‘The Blue Star’, directed by Javier Macipe and co-produced by Spain and Argentina, won this Monday the main award of the Nantes Spanish Film Festival (FCEN)which is held in France and in this edition had guests such as the filmmakers Víctor Erice and Pablo Berger.

Macipe’s first feature film as a director won the Jules Verne for best film and also the audience award, while ‘O corno’, by Jaione Camborda, won a special mention.

The list of trophies for feature films was completed with ‘Chinas’, by Arantxa Echevarría, which won the special prize from the young jury; ‘Upon Entry, the arrival’, by Alejandro Rojas and Juan Sebastián Vásquez, which won the best debut film, and ‘Zinzindurrunkarratz’ (Oskar Alegría), which won the best documentary.

As for the short films, the festival award went to Alex Lora for ‘The Great Work’.

‘The Blue Star’ had been the film chosen for the opening of this contest held in Nantes, on March 22, and was competing alongside six other Spanish films.

Among them, titles such as ‘They know that’, by David Trueba, or ‘Un amor’, by Isabel Coixet, stood out.

Macipe’s film is a story set in the 90s in which Spanish rocker Mauricio Aznar travels through Latin America looking to rediscover his vocation and leave behind the ghost of addictions.

In addition to the films in competition, this 33rd edition of the FCEM had focused on animation and the cinema of Pablo Berger, who was the great guest in Nantes during the first days of the festival.

The illustrator Paco Roca was also present at the event, to inaugurate the first exhibition of his work in France and show the good links between the graphic novel and cinema.

The finishing touch was a master class by Víctor Erice, the special guest of this edition, who came to Nantes in the final stretch of the contest.
