El Comercio maintains its work of promoting creators and their works through the Lights Awards, the most important culture and entertainment awards in the country in which the audience is the one who chooses who wins the trophies. And on the night of Tuesday, April 2, the winners of the nineteenth awards ceremony were revealed after more than a month of voting.
There were nearly 100 thousand votes that were registered in this edition to determine the 38 winners that we will have this year in 8 categories: Cinema, Television, Theater, Music, Visual Arts, Fashion, Letters and Digital Content.
In addition, this year there were 3 special awards determined by a jury in charge of rewarding excellence. In these categories, the public vote did not intervene: the Lifetime Achievement Award, intended to honor an outstanding figure with an extensive and fruitful career in the cultural world; the Breakthrough Artist award, designed to recognize the emerging and promising talent of a creator who has recently arrived on the artistic scene; and the Initiative of the Year award, which seeks to highlight those projects that have generated a positive social impact.
