Rodrigo Sorogoyen will preside over the jury at Cannes Critics’ Week

The Spanish filmmaker Rodrigo Sorogoyen will preside over the jury of the 63rd Cannes Film Festival Critics Weekone of the parallel competitions of the contest, the organizers announced this Friday in a tweet. “It is a great responsibility that I really look forward to,” Sorogoyen himself declared through a video message on the X network.

Sorogoyen is one of the best-known Spanish directors, author of “As Bestas”, Goya for the best Spanish film and César for the best foreign film in France in 2023.

Critics’ Week “by showing the first and second works of filmmakers, and the short films, what it is doing is supporting cinema in an essential way,” added the director, born in Madrid in 1981.

Critics’ Week takes place on the same dates as the festival. The 77th Cannes Film Festival will be held between May 14 and 25.

The Week’s jury awards a Grand Prize, a Discovery award for the best short or medium-length film, the Louis Roederer Foundation award for the best new actor or actress, as well as a French Touch award that rewards the most creative work.

It also participates in the deliberation of the Camera d’Or, the prize that Cannes awards, in all competitions, to the best first film of the festival.

In addition to his latest feature film “As Bestas”, Sorogoyen has been awarded for “El Reino” in 2019. He is also the author of the television series “Antidisturbios”, and his new project is titled “The New Years”.
