CherOzzy Osbourne, Peter Frampton and the band Kool and the Gang are among the candidates admitted for the Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame this 2024. These artists will officially enter the rock and roll aristocracy during the thirty-ninth induction ceremony, scheduled for October 19 in Cleveland (Ohio), according to an announcement this Monday from the American Idol show.
Among the new members of the prestigious hall are also Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest, Dave Matthews Band and Foreigner.
To be a candidate for the Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame, an artist or band must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.
However, singer Cher, 77, who began her career in the duo with Sonny, said she felt that the Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame had discarded her for many years.
“Did you know? “I wouldn’t go in now if they gave me a million dollars,” he added. “I will never change what I think,” he stressed last December on the Kelly Clarkson show.
Osbourne is already a member of the Hall of Fame as a member of the band Black Sabbath, inducted in 2006. Among the candidates nominated but not accepted are Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor, Lenny Kravitz, Jane’s Addiction, Sade and Mariah Carey.
Additionally, the recently deceased Jimmy Buffett, the Michigan band MC5, singer Dionne Warwick and songwriter and singer Norman Whitfield (1940-2008) were selected for the Musical Excellence Award.
In the Musical Influence Award category, Big Mama Thornton (1926-1984) is accompanied this year by the British Alexis Korner (1928-1984) and the Englishman John Mayall, all of them in the musical territory shared by blues and rock’n roll
