A pet battle. Last May 1, the Peruvian film “Vaguito”: I’ll Wait for You on the Shore”, by director Alex Hidalgo (2024), surpassed “Garfield: Out of Home” at the box office on the day of its release.
The fact is that, according to the X user (formerly Twitter), the national film obtained 76,000 spectators during the first May holiday, while the Sony Pictures feature film brought together 74,000.
In this way, the movie about the faithful little dog managed to get more than 600,000 views in theaterspositioning itself as one of the Peruvian films most viewed of the year.
It should be noted that, “Vaguito” along with four other Peruvian feature films, they were at the top of the box office during the last weeks of April. These tapes were “Alive or dead”, “The most feared skin”, “Chabuca” and “Yana-Wara.”
The sudden success of “Vaguito” in national cinemas came after a “word of mouth” campaign on social networks and the charitable cause that this film encourages.
However, as it is the opening day of “Garfield”, it is still expected that the film will get more views. Currently, both films can be seen in most multiplexes in Peru.
