Velásquez presents “Lado ajeno”, a song that invites you to fight for freedom, listen and be reborn | VIDEO

Extraordinary settings feed the soul and sometimes serve as creative input. So it happened with Velasquez, a national singer-songwriter who was inspired by the massive march in November 2020 against the former Peruvian president, Manuel Merino.

The result is “Foreign side”, A topic in which he refers to the need to be empathetic and how this can help us understand the world and its complexities.

He explains: “’Lado ajeno ‘speaks of a rebirth, of a moment in which generational change is becoming more and more evident. It focuses on how beautiful it is to see how others perceive things, to be able to understand someone who has political views different from their own, and vice versa ”.

And add: “That we really need as a nation. We are living in a phase of division and polarization, which is becoming more and more evident.”.

Like millions of Peruvians, in November of last year, Velásquez went out to march and found that inspiration that is sometimes the key to giving a speech from the depths.

I wrote the song the same week the protests took place. I remember that we went out to march on Av. Arequipa and, with my phone, I managed to record the musical rhythm that the march caused. I was surprised to feel the musicality that the protest generated and to realize that it happened during the pandemic; It was better to fight for freedom than to catch a virus”.

“Lado ajeno” was produced by Jorge Velásquez himself in his home studio, but had the support of other musical colleagues such as Alonso Bentín and Jorge Balbi. For next year, he is already preparing the release of an EP where he will work once again with Matías Cella, winner of the Latin Grammy and recognized for having worked before with Jorge Drexler and Kevin Johansen.

The video clip was shot in Lima under the direction of Johana Cabanas.
