Coldplay will release a new album whose vinyl edition will be made from recycled bottles

The British band Coldplay has set out to launch the most sustainable vinyl record in the world, and will do so with its new album ‘Moon Music’, which will be released on October 4 and whose copies will each be made with nine recovered plastic bottles. of consumer waste.

Bottle recycling will avoid the manufacture of more than 25 tons of virgin plastic and reduce CO2 emissions by 85% compared to the production of traditional 140 gram vinyl, according to a statement from the group.

The creation of a special edition in “notebook” format has incorporated 70% of river plastic, intercepted by the organization The Ocean Cleanup of the Las Vacas River, Guatemala, which has prevented the polluting material from reaching the Gulf of Honduras and the Ocean Atlantic.

The commitment to make their tenth album the most sustainable possible is added to other innovative measures by the group that, on its current tour, has reduced CO2 emissions by 59% compared to the previous one.

As for the CD editions of ‘Moon Music’, they will be made from 90% recycled plastic, which will reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 78% and avoid the production of five tons of virgin plastic.

In its effort to reduce waste, the first pressing of ‘Moon Music’ (both EcoRecord LP and EcoCD) will be strictly limited and higher spec than any future pressings, according to the group.
