Pelo Madueño Releases “Apocalipsex”: The Transformation of the Rebel Rocker into a Peruvian “Crooner”

After five years since his previous album, and with many stories that marked his life as a Peruvian artist, Madueño Hair (1968) premiered his recent production “Apocalipsex”. This new musical proposal reveals his evolution as an artist, crossing rock, pop and the underground world, and shows his constant search for new sounds to provide fresh nuances to a discography that grows alongside his experiences.

“This started quite a few years ago with the first ideas based on the acoustic guitar, and it wasn’t until the pandemic that I began to give it shape and realize that it was a very interesting new path for me on an artistic level”mentions Madueño in an interview with El Comercio.

The title of this new album combines two key concepts: the apocalypse that the pandemic represented and sex. “It has to do with that apocalyptic feeling that we experienced during the pandemic, of feeling that everything was over in those moments”, he explained. Furthermore, the play on words adds sex, understood as a way of expressing love. “Many of the songs on the album talk about heartbreak and breakups; In that sense, sex is part of those relationships that disappeared.”he adds.

This new production by Madueño is described by the artist as a work where listeners will find “songs with Latin American roots and themes from an open, open and naked singer-songwriter, whose lyrics may connect with your mind or spirituality, ironic, of a lot of heartbreak and searching. ”. This album, the sixth in his solo career, reflects his endless journey to explore diverse sounds, always faithful to his own tastes and without leaning towards the commercial.

From his beginnings with underground rock bands like Narcosis and Eructo Maldonado, to his evolution with La Liga del Sueño and his career as a soloist, Madueño has been consistent with his decision to explore new musical paths, which makes him stand out in the Peruvian music scene. . Furthermore, his talent for constantly reinventing himself is a hallmark of his career.

The new Madueño

In this new stage of his career, Madueño presents himself as a more introspective and mature singer-songwriter, a Latin American crooner. “I believe that every singer-songwriter who is at the level of the purest interpretation with an instrument and a voice is in some way a crooner,” mentions Madueño. This facet of his artistic personality is very present in “Apocalipsex”, an album where songs written with acoustic guitar and voice predominate, produced with a sensitivity reminiscent of the great classical singer-songwriters.

To create this new album, the singer’s goal was different, seeking to reflect authenticity after several years on stage and find a new style for his current artistic phase. “I wrote all the songs with a nylon guitar and voice, very much in the spirit of a timeless singer-songwriter. Then I started experimenting in the studio adding other instruments to find a unique sound and give the project a personality.”explained Madueño, pointing out that this is evident when listening to the recordings, many of which were made in an ‘old school’ style, without resorting to modern tools such as autotune.

In addition to reflecting his current artistic vision, this album is also a testimony of a life marked by music. From his childhood, surrounded by Peruvian and Brazilian music, and reading poems by Peruvian authors, to his punk and rock years, each stage has contributed to the rich sound palette of “Apocalipsex”. Among his great influences are Chabuca Granda and the writer Jorge Eduardo Eielson. ““That whole musical world has returned to me as an adult after having gone through punk or rock, coinciding with the best moment and my desire to do new things.”he concludes.
