“Ron Da Error”: Why should parents and children watch this sobering animated movie? | INTERVIEW

Technology has become involved in the day to day, even for the smallest of the house. That is the relationship shown in “Ron Da Error”, the new film from Principal Sarah Smith who tells the story of Barney Pudowski, a boy who finds it difficult to establish friendships with his classmates, but will find his best friend in his B-Bot Ron.

Director Sarah Smith and screenwriter Peter Baynham spoke with Trade about the upcoming release of the film and the inspiration they had to create it. They stressed that they relied on the youngest of their families to establish this friendly relationship between the characters. “Family is the most important thing, your children are the most interesting thing. I always wanted to make movies for children and these imaginary ideas with otherworldly experiences “remembers Smith.

The concept of “Ron Da Error” revolves around the fact that there are children who do not know how to establish a friendship. “I think it is based on experiences with our children, Sarah told me about the idea and I loved it because I could see something giant to talk about. The world with technology and social networks and have fun. Our children’s relationship with technology and also our own relationship because the world moves like this, this wonderful service that I love”, recalca Baynham.

Both wanted to highlight this idea that we live in a world where we depend on technological gadgets, and they were inspired by the movie “HER” by Spike Jonze, but adapted for children. “A child developing a friendly relationship with this robot, but from there we got the idea, what happens if this robot is useless? Because it is fun and challenging, you are going to have a good trip for the children with this device “said the screenwriter.

The idea that Ron is ‘broken’ and not working as it should, was Sarah’s. “In my first version, B-Bots learn by imitation, but one day they realize that they act out of emotions. The fact that it’s broken and annoying, it’s so much more fun. It’s a journey (…) They are very different characters. Ron is a complete blank canvas and the B-Bots are programmed, they say “I love you” but they don’t have a true friendship “.

However, getting to establish the characters of “Ron Da Error” is a complex creative process but fun at the same time, where many people launch ideas and thus arrive at what they want to show the public. They all build on the character.

“First I meet with some of the designers I have worked with previously and tell them what the B-Bot would look like, how it works, and they give them ideas of what it might look like. At the same time, we started writing and trying to find the tone of voice. From there we go on to define the perfect B-Bot. All these things happen at the same time “remembers Sarah.

Peter Baynham and Sarah Smith have the illusion of showing this story to the public and they are clear about the message they want to leave. “There is the importance of friendship as you grow up. We want people to enjoy this sophisticated, but at the same time very funny film that covers the complexity of the relationships between people and technology “said the director.

For his part, the screenwriter stressed that they do not want to go against technology. “We use these things all the time, every day, it is part of you. There is no way to get away from this, but it is good when you escape into the forest, but to return you call to warn “Peter Baynham finished.

“Ron Da Error” opens this Thursday, October 21 in theaters in Peru.
