Prophetic Culture: “We are interested in making music that is not disposable and that lasts over time”

Everyone returns to the place where they were happy, the saying goes, and that’s how they understand it. prophetic culture, Puerto Rican band that returns to our country after two long years of absence.

It will be a special moment for their fans, as they will celebrate their 25 years of experience at the Jockey Club’s Plaza Arena and present ‘Sobrevolando’, an album that appeared in 2019 and was awarded a Latin Grammy in the category of Best Alternative Music Album. .

Firm in its position, Culture is clear that today the music industry has changed a lot. “We live in the era of the single, but we like to release complete albums because it is a different experience for the fan, where they can find a route and the band’s message,” says Omar Silva, who is the band’s guitarist.

What is your formula for making music?

(Omar Silva) We are interested in making music that is not disposable. Digital platforms have so much power that, for example, our album ‘Sobrevolando’ came out in 2019 and it is already considered old and it is not like that. But, we understand that you have to negotiate these new ways in which the industry is managed. The idea is to age well, not under pressure.

And why do you live in a market full of singles today?

(Juanqui Sulsona) For the same speed with the platforms and record companies they offer content. The competition is tough, but we want to be out of that mold. But, there is an audience for everything and it is not bad. We are interested in making music that is different and has a long life.

And since they talk about ‘Sobrevolando,’ why did they give the album that name?

(Juanqui Sulsona) Many things were happening at the regional level such as protests, Hurricane María, changes of members for us, among other things. So, the title was perfect for all those changes, where our music was floating on all these changes.

And he was awarded a Grammy …

(Omar Silva) It was to give relevance to the album. It satisfies us because in 25 years we have independently achieved something important. I had already ruled out this award before. We didn’t need it, but the victory is relevant.

How is the rhythm of the tour coming?

(Juanqui Sulsona) We are a little out of shape. It has not been easy to readjust. We started with Colombia, but here in Peru it is different. The public helps a lot. We have high expectations because the events that have happened are extremely important to us. The pandemic turned us off, but we feel like we have important material to show.

What can Peruvian fans expect from your show?

(Omar Silva) A complete show where we review the latest album and the classics. We are happy and expectant, since Peru is a country that follows us from Napster and that is important for the band. We love you very much and we are sure that it will be a happy reunion for all of you.

As you remember, Cultura Profética will be presented this Tuesday, December 7, at the Plaza Arena within the Jockey Club of Peru. The leading performers will be Common Minds and DELIĆ. To purchase tickets, they can do so by entering the Joinnus platform.
