The Peruvian ribbon “Utopia, the movie” marked his Netflix debut this Friday, January 7. After twelve international recognitions, the film directed by Gino Tassara and the late Jorge Vilela joined the national films that are already part of the streaming platform.

The Sinargollas Producciones film is based on the tragic fire at the exclusive Utopia nightclub in which 29 young people died. The film follows the skills of Julián, a journalist who intends to go beyond the official story.

The five years it took to make the film were worth it, I am happy and sad at the same time because I cannot enjoy this great achievement with my friend Jorge Vilela, who directed with me and passed away last year.”, Gino Tassara said in a statement.

I’m surprised because at first they told me that Netflix didn’t want ‘Utopia’… ‘and it would have remained in the trunk of memories if I had kept the response from this Peruvian distributor “added the filmmaker.

“Utopia, the movie” has a cast of great national actors, including Gianfranco Brero, Rossana Fernández Maldonado, Renzo Schüller, Cécica Bernasconi, Carlos Mesta, Edith Tapia, Javier Valdés, Leslie Stewart, Marissa Minetti, Alexandra Graña, Haydee Cáceres, Fernando Bakovic, among others.

Julián, a frustrated investigative journalist, is obsessed with reopening the Utopia Case, the fire in the most exclusive nightclub in Lima where 29 young people died. After several comings and goings, Julián begins his investigation and knows the drama of the relatives in their search for justice, relives key moments of the case finding more questions than answers.

What really happened that night of July 20, 2002? Why do two of the main responsible for this tragedy remain free? Why, after 16 years of the events, have the relatives still not found justice?
