Covid-19 in Guadeloupe: Contaminations rise sharply

Guadeloupe continues to suffer from the coronavirus. The number of cases of contamination with Covid-19 goes back there indeed strongly. The prefect therefore decided on Wednesday to maintain the braking measures in force.

For the week of March 7 to 13, “the number of new positive cases detected on the territory increases by 90.8%”, indicate in a press release the prefecture and the regional health agency of Guadeloupe. Going from 1,978 for the previous week, to 3,775, the authorities therefore note the sharp rise in contamination, which goes hand in hand with that of the indicators, observed for two weeks. Over the first two days of the current week, the positivity rate exceeded 18%, with more than 800 positive cases identified.

Restrictions “until March 31”

“As a result, the measures currently in place are maintained until March 31”, therefore announces the prefecture. Consequently, Guadeloupe retains its curfew, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., the obligation to wear a mask in indoor and outdoor public spaces, the health pass in certain establishments open to the public. “In addition, PCR and antigen tests remain free until the end of March,” the statement further details.

In Guadeloupe, the population is very little vaccinated against Covid-19 and despite the distribution of the Novavax vaccine, the figures hardly change: less than 50% of people over the age of 12 have received a first dose, and only 23% of people have a complete vaccination schedule (2 doses and a booster).
