Basmati rice recalled due to presence of carcinogenic toxins

The Lidl brand has recalled packages of basmati rice. Aflatoxins, carcinogenic toxins, have been detected there; reports Rappel Conso, the site for dangerous product alerts.

The product in question belongs to the Golden Sun brand. It is packaged in the form of a 1 kilo sachet. The barcode is 20073763 and the minimum durability date has been set to 01/11/2023, 01/12/2023 or 01/13/2023, depending on the pouches.

Hundreds of stores affected

The recalled product was marketed in many Lidl supermarkets between January 22, 2021 and November 4, 2022. The list of affected outlets can be viewed online.

According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), “aflatoxins are genotoxic and carcinogenic”. Reminder Conso therefore advises not to consume this rice. Customers can return it to the store in order to benefit from a refund before the end of the recall procedure, on January 9, 2023.
