If you’re a member of a gym, make the most of the many cardio machines in front of you.

People often find one they like and stick with it, but it takes some experimentation to find the perfect machine for you.

“I’d say pick the piece of equipment that gives you the most motivation and fun — whether it’s the treadmill, the rower, the bike, or even a class like spinning,” continues Anthony.

You may not know it, but strength training in the gym is also good for your heart.

“Don’t think cardio just comes from aerobics — strength training also works for your cardiovascular system,” says Anthony.

When you’re not in the gym, running, cycling, or even walking is your best bet.

Just get moving.

Don’t let your nerves stop you

It’s totally normal to be nervous at first, especially if you’re about to start a new gym or class.

“If you go there, I recommend you speak directly to the fitness professional who works there, let them know and ask for advice,” adds Anthony.

“They show you how to use the equipment properly and guide you through the slow build-up — it also gives you a face and a name in the gym that you’ll always know when you leave, which boosts your confidence.”

Anthony also recommends going with a friend to boost your confidence and turn your workout into a social event.

Third, if you want to run home by running outside, try to follow some kind of guide to help you.

“I would recommend downloading Couch to 5K – it tells you everything you need to do every day,” says Anthony.

“It starts very slowly and builds slowly.”

Want to stick to your fitness resolution? Start small and slow

“The best way to stick to a fitness resolution is to set goals that are as small as possible,” says Anthony.

That way you don’t feel overwhelmed with what you have to do – and every little goal you accomplish motivates you to work harder.

“Putting it down to small achievable goals will keep your motivation to stick to your New Year’s resolutions high,” he adds.
