Influenza, bronchiolitis… epidemics have declined dramatically, but are still present in France

That the flu and bronchiolitis certainly continue to infect in France, but in fewer and fewer people, indicates the latest French public health report (SPF), published this Wednesday.

According to the health agency, the incidence of influenza is declining “in all age groups and in all metropolitan areas.” However, the circulation remains “always active” and all regions are still at the epidemic threshold.

Compared to the first week of the year, consultations in mainland France fell by 21% in the second week. Emergency room visits decreased by 49%. The total number of hospitalized is 556 people (-61%). “All age groups are affected. »

43.8% of people over 65 are vaccinated

The rate of referral for influenza-like illness was 146 per 100,000 inhabitants, up from 185 per 100,000 a week earlier. 43.8% of people over 65 years of age are vaccinated, 23.1% of those under 65 years of age. Since the end of 2022, the number of people who have died directly from the flu has been estimated at 910.

As for bronchiolitis, it decreases in children under 2 years of age and in most regions. The epidemic in Ile-de-France is considered over.

Last week, 1,537 children under the age of 2 presented to the emergency department, a decrease of 32%. 1431 people were less than a year old. 637 people were hospitalized (-29%), 605 children under one year old.
