Scientists have updated the Nutri-score algorithm. Foods containing too many unfavorable nutrients (sugar, saturated fat, salt, etc.) will be rated lower. The biggest change will be in the breakfast cereal department. Most brands will not be able to display an A rating. They will all be predominantly classified based on a C rating. This is especially true for Chocapic, which has until now been classified as A.
“Despite the laudable reformulation resulting in a reduction in sugar content, they still contain relatively high amounts of sugar,” notes Serge Herzberg, developer of the assessment tool.
Red meat, ready meals and sodas will all fall in the rankings, while the new Nutri-score prioritizes fiber-rich whole foods over refined foods (white bread, pasta, rice).
But in order not to change the recipe, some manufacturers simply remove Nutri-Skor from the packaging. This is actually not required.
